Jacob’s Ladder

Jacobs Ladder, Genesis 28:10-19, Linocut A5, Handcoloured. Mark Hewitt July 2014.

Jacobs Ladder is my imagining of Jacob’s dream. The ladder being the visualisation of God’s blessing. This blessing takes place amoungst rocks. Amoungst normal life. Life is rarely without rocky patches. The ladder reaches to heaven. Heaven though is not out of sight but can be found around us. To see heaven, to see God’s blessing, we need only take one step and the perspective of the situation changes. We might then get a glimpse of a blessing. Heaven, seen here on earth, not beyond our reach, is reflected in colour gently washing over the landscape from the sun that has set. There is also a hint of mystery as we do not know what is out of sight behind the large rocks.

Cups, pots & kettles

Cups, pots & kettles. Mark A Hewitt 2012

Cups, pots & kettles ready to be washed. Jesus ministry and teaching was deep and meaningful yet his critics  kept with small minded things like the washing of cups, pots and kettles. Things have not changed as we are often caught up dealing with small minded issues when we are dealing with the big questions of life. Mk 7:4.

When the day of Pentecost came……..

When the day of Pentecost came. Mark A Hewitt, Pastel & pen. 26 May 2012..

Acts 2:1-3 (NRSV) ‘When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them.

Followers of ‘The Way’ gather

Followers of ‘The Way’ gather, Mark A Hewitt, Pastel & Pen, 25 May 2012

Acts 1:15 In those days Peter stood up amoung the believers, together the crowd numbered about one hundred and twenty persons ……
The followers of Jesus continued to meet over a number of days after the Ascension.
You get the idea of them coming and going. Doing what they need and then returning to the gathered community. A bit like a church camp.A fluid movement of people.
