Mustard Shrub

Parable of the mustard seed growing into a large shrub.
Mark A Hewitt 1999 Lino cut & water colour.

Mustard shrub with a Superb Fairy Wren nesting in it’s shade. Mark 4:30-32
The mustard seed is so small although when it grows into a shrub it can reach 3 metres. God’s basileia can be experienced in the most unspectacular, commonplace or “shrub like” events. This is God’s world located in the ordinary. It may start small but will end up disproportionally large. Pentecost 3 Yr B

The people want a King

The people wanted a King. Pastel, Mark A Hewitt 7 June 2012

This is not a joyous occasion, the people again reject God. God & the prophet Samuel were not happy yet God stays with the people and they get their king.

Trinity

Tricycle, Mark A Hewitt, photo 2012

What’s this? – A tricycle. It’s special on in our family – an old one I restored our eldest was a baby. It has since been used for many years which is why it looks so loved. What makes tricycles good? 3 wheels – very stable. Will it work if one of the wheels are taken away? – No. All 3 wheels are equally important & they work together as one. A tricycle is not a tricycle without all three.

When the day of Pentecost came……..

When the day of Pentecost came. Mark A Hewitt, Pastel & pen. 26 May 2012..

Acts 2:1-3 (NRSV) ‘When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them.

Followers of ‘The Way’ gather

Followers of ‘The Way’ gather, Mark A Hewitt, Pastel & Pen, 25 May 2012

Acts 1:15 In those days Peter stood up amoung the believers, together the crowd numbered about one hundred and twenty persons ……
The followers of Jesus continued to meet over a number of days after the Ascension.
You get the idea of them coming and going. Doing what they need and then returning to the gathered community. A bit like a church camp.A fluid movement of people.
